Fireworks are a popular part of July 4 celebrations in the Tahoe area. But for the second year in a row, the fireworks shows are being canceled. Some Tahoe towns will see a quieter Fourth of July this year, even as California aims to reopen its economy by June 15.
Last week, regional officials for Truckee and North Lake Tahoe announced in a statement “the difficult decision” to cancel celebratory events for the Fourth of July. This is the second year in a row that North Lake Tahoe has canceled its July 4 events because of the pandemic, joining Nevada’s North Shore.
South Lake Tahoe will make a decision on its own Fourth of July events on May 21, according to Moonshine Ink.
The holiday is one of the busiest for the Lake Tahoe area, with nearly 250,000 visitors flocking to the region to celebrate. With the cancellations, officials are aiming to reduce the number of visitors and crowds.
Canceled events include:
– July 3 fireworks at Kings Beach
– July 4 fireworks at Donner Lake in Truckee
– July 4 fireworks in Tahoe City
– Truckee’s Fourth of July parade
– Any other event that takes place in Truckee or North Lake Tahoe for Fourth of July
