SACRAMENTO, CA – Today Assemblyman Kevin Kiley (R-Rocklin) issued the following statement in response to the release of Governor Gavin Newsom’s car tax rebate proposal:
“Instead of supporting my bill to suspend the gas tax and provide immediate relief for working families, Governor Newsom waited a month to release his rebate proposal and still can’t give us details on what it will do. While other states are taking action to help their residents, our Governor and Legislature left for spring break without a plan to help Californians. The Legislature needs to pass AB 1638 as soon as it reconvenes next week.”
While the Governor previously announced a plan to send $400 rebates back to Californians who own a car, the proposal released today has an unspecified rebate amount and includes an unspecified cap on which cars qualify for relief. It also lacks urgency as the proposal appears to be weeks or months away from passage.
Assemblyman Kevin Kiley represents the 6th Assembly District, which includes the Sacramento, Placer, and El Dorado County communities of Cameron Park, El Dorado Hills, Fair Oaks, Folsom, Granite Bay, Lincoln, Loomis, Orangevale, Penryn, Rocklin, Roseville, and Sheridan
