The Kiwanis Club of Placerville recognized and awarded Simone Caruthers with the Student Service Leader of the Month award for March to acknowledge her service with the Ponderosa Key Club and local community. Brian Veerkamp, Placerville Kiwanis President noted, “Simone exemplifies the youth of our community and Kiwanis is honored to recognize her diligence and compassion for service!”
Simone serves as the Ponderosa Key Club President, and she personally devotes many hours to community service and is dedicated to helping others feel passionate about being involved citizens in their communities.
Ilana Brown, a teacher at Ponderosa High School notes, “Simone’s dedication is shown through her amazing ability to organize and plan the Ponderosa Key Club meetings and events. I am always impressed by Simone’s generosity of self and her ability to balance going out of her way to help others and setting boundaries to allow herself the opportunity to achieve her own goals. Simone’s teachers consistently report that she is a great student showing both passion for her education and responsibility for her commitments. It is a great honor to work with Simone!”
High school student members of Key Club perform acts of service in their communities, such as cleaning up parks, collecting clothing and organizing food drives. They also learn leadership skills by running meetings, planning projects and holding elected leadership positions at the club, district and international levels.
