CHP: 14-year-old Girl Killed in CAMINO Hit-And-Run

CAMINO, Calif. — A 14-year-old girl has died in a hit-and-run crash Tuesday afternoon in El Dorado County, officials said. The driver was taken into custody hours later.

The California Highway Patrol Placerville division said the teen was walking along Carson Road east of Barkley Road near the town of Camino just after 4 p.m. when she was hit by a newer model white Honda CR-V. The surrounding roadways are closed with no estimated time of reopening.

Officers who arrived found the girl dead at the scene, CHP said. The vehicle is believed to have front bumper and windshield damage to the passenger side from hitting the girl. It was last seen driving westbound on Carson Road toward Placerville.

Around 7:30 p.m., CHP said the vehicle and driver were located, but no other details on if the person was taken into custody were released. The agency updated its post about half an hour later to clarify that the driver is in custody.
