PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) — A convicted child predator is back in custody after U.S. Marshals say he failed to appear for sentencing of multiple child sex abuse charges.
In a news release, the U.S. Marshals Service says 56-year-old Gordon Goulding was arrested on Friday. Authorities say Goulding was originally facing 43 counts of various charges including sexual abuse of a minor, sexual conduct with a minor, and voyeurism.
Federal agents say he failed to appear for sentencing at Maricopa County Superior Court on Sept. 14 and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Prosecutors say Goulding was facing more than 20 years in prison when he cut his ankle monitor and ran off. The U.S. Marshals Service was able to locate him in Lake Tahoe, where he was using an “altered” Arizona ID to hide his identity.
Authorities say he was arrested on Friday after being directed toward a home in South Lake Tahoe, California. Goulding was seen riding a bike to his house and was taken into custody. He is currently in the El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe where he is awaiting extradition to Phoenix.
