FESTIVALS & LIVE MUSIC
The 25th Annual Valhalla Holiday Faire showcases local and regional seasonal arts and crafts in the historic Valhalla Grand Hall at Tallac Historic Site, Nov. 19-21. Mr. and Mrs. Claus will make the rounds, and as the Tahoe Children’s Choirs perform seasonal favorites for enjoyable holiday shopping.
The Winter Festival (formerly Barton’s Festival of Tree & Lights) offers free community events organized by students at South Lake Tahoe High School, Dec. 3-4 from 4-8 p.m. The festival will feature choirs, bands, orchestra, drumline, and dancer team performances; magic show; and photos with Santa. A theater presentation of “The Witches Princess,” local artwork, baked goods and food truck specialties are available for purchase.
Casino entertainment at the South Shore Room at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe features Shenandoah, Nov. 5, Warren Miller’s Winter Starts Now, Nov. 19-20; Abbacadabra: The Ultimate Abba Tribute, Nov. 27, and Christmas with The Filharmonic, Dec. 17 – Jan. 3.
Bally’s Lake Tahoe, formerly MontBleu, hosts a complete line-up of music and dancing with performances in the showroom or Blu Nightclub by Fortunate Youth, Nov. 17; Andre Nickatina, Dec. 3; CloZee, Dec. 5; Minnesota, Dec. 11; Blues Survivors: John Mayall & Walter Trout, Dec. 17; The Dead South, Dec. 18 and a New Year’s Eve Celebration, Dec. 31. Every Friday and Saturday nights guests can rendezvous at HQ Center Bar then head over to Opal Nightclub to enjoy all the missed celebrations from birthdays, reunions, weddings, graduations, and bachelor/bachelorette parties.
Add a little magic to the holidays with the “Mystifying” and “Mind-Bending” Alex Ramon – Real Magic, at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe, Sundays – Thursdays, Nov. 23, 2021 – Jan. 8, 2022*. Recommended for ages five and older to enjoy this show. *Note: no performances December 10-12, 24, and 31.
HEAVENLY HOLIDAYS
The festive holiday season kicks off with the Heavenly Village Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, Nov. 26 at 6:30 p.m. Daily tree lightings continue through December at 5:30 p.m.
Holiday Santa Paws & Yappy Hour benefitting the Humane Society at Fire + Ice in the Heavenly Village, are scheduled Dec. 2 and 9 from 3-5 p.m. There’s photo ops with pets and Santa, treats, and warm beverages. The same venue is hosting Tahoe’s Breakfast with Santa for kids, Dec. 4, 11 and 18 from 8 – 10 a.m. (space is limited, online reservations only).
Don your best holiday apparel for the Tahoe Santa Run/Walk, throughout the Village and shops to support the local food pantry, Dec. 11 at 10:30 a.m.
Magic comes to the ice rink with Disney Characters in the Heavenly Village, Saturdays in December and daily, Dec. 26-30 from 3–6 p.m. See Beaty and the Beast, Dec. 26; Anna, Elsa and Olaf of “Frozen,” Dec. 27; Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella, Dec. 28; Woody and Buzz of “Toy Story,” Dec. 29; and JJ from Coco Melon & Paw Patrol, Dec. 30. Local ice sculptors vying for bragging rights and a $500 donation to a charity of choice, Dec. 27 from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Family-friendly festivities continues, Dec. 27-31, with a Tahoe South Ferris Wheel affording lake views during the day and the twinkling lights and Christmas trees at night. Stuff-A-Bear, where kids can build their own teddy bear, is available near the fountain, Dec. 27-31 at 1 p.m.
NEW YEAR’S EVE CELEBRATIONS
Live music will take place on Heavenly Village’s Main Stage, Dec. 30-31 from 2-9:30 p.m. with county music artist, Tyler Rich headlining Thursday, Dec. 30. Heavenly Holidays reaches its zenith on New Year’s Eve with a gondola drop coordinated with the midnight ball drop in New York City’s Time Square, at 9 p.m. PT, and 2022 will be rung in by ’90s alternative rock band, Gin Blossoms, accompanied with fireworks. The party continues into the night at casino nightclubs. Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe is also offering Year-End Celebration pre-fixe menus for groups of 25 or more.
