A Diamond Springs woman suspected of hitting a pedestrian with her car on Halloween night and then fleeing the scene was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon, according to the Placerville office of the California Highway Patrol.
Jasmine Gibson, 28, was reportedly driving a red 2017 Toyota Corolla south on Patterson Drive just north of Sunlight Drive in Diamond Springs at about 7:55 p.m. when she struck a victim who was holding the hand of a child trick-or-treating.
CHP investigators say Gibson had swerved onto the shoulder of the road when she hit the pedestrian, causing “major injuries” that required an air ambulance. Witnesses at the scene said they saw Gibson stop but then drive away. CHP’s report indicates a juvenile was in the vehicle with her.
Gibson was arrested at her place of employment in El Dorado County; her vehicle was located in Stockton, CHP officials reported.
Gibson is charged with felony hit and run; DUI was suspected.
