An advocacy group for cannabis businesses in El Dorado County says the county and its sheriff have set up a permitting process that is broken and violates the privacy rights of people seeking to run legal cannabis businesses.
Despite attempts to resolve the issues, the El Dorado County Growers Alliance said nothing has been done and applications to open cannabis businesses continue to be held up with little or no recourse. The alliance, which is a nonprofit organization formed in 2017, says it plans to file a lawsuit.
“We represent the cultivators and operators who have applied for a conditional use permit and been in the system for over a year and are ready to go to the planning commission to get their licenses but the sheriff is refusing to do his minor role under county law and therefore they cannot move forward,” said Rod Miller, executive director of the growers alliance.
