HAPPY VALLEY, Cal – The annual “May is Bike Month” livestream event kicks off on Saturday, May 1, 2021 between 11:00 a.m. and 12:10 p.m. PDT via the “May is Bike Month” Facebook page at @mayisbikemonth. This year, as part of the all-day virtual kickoff celebration, participants are encouraged to ride to one of the destinations featured in our Backyard Bike Tours. It is a fun opportunity for cyclists of all ages and abilities to get outside at their own leisure and discover local destinations near their own backyards, with a chance to win prizes along the way.
Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG) will be hosting the livestream event, featuring local leaders and personalities from the different counties throughout the Sacramento region. During the Backyard Bike Tours kickoff event, participants can log onto MayisBikeMonth.com to access a list of local destinations throughout the Sacramento region. These locations will be organized by city, and routes will be accessible to cyclists of diverse ages and capabilities. Participants can begin at any time during the day on Saturday, May 1, 2021 and may ride their bikes to any of the local destinations to take a photo with their bike. Once they have taken a photo, they are encouraged to post it to social media (Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram) with the hashtag #MayisBikeMonth2021Kickoff for an opportunity to win prizes.
“May is the perfect time to get out on your bike and explore your local neighborhood,” said Bonnie Gore, Placer County Supervisor and Board Chair of the Sacramento Area Council of Governments. “Our region features a variety of excellent bike trails and destinations that are easily accessible by bike. I’d like to challenge my colleagues and the residents of Placer County to trade their car in for at least one bike trip this May. It’s a great way to get exercise and improve air quality, while enjoying this beautiful time of year.”
Viewers are encouraged to tune into the Facebook livestream on Saturday, May 1 at 11:00 am to learn more about May is Bike Month, biking events happening in their city, tips and tricks when it comes to biking in the Sacramento region, and more.
