I wanted to let you know I will not be seeking a third term on the Placerville City Council. Serving the city in this capacity has been, absolutely, one of the greatest privileges of my life, and I will certainly remain a passionate supporter of the city I love. However, eight years as a councilwoman and two years as mayor is enough for now, and I am ready to explore what is next in my life. We currently have 3 grandchildren, and I’d like to give them more of my attention. I am also working on my master’s degree which consumes a considerable amount of time.
That said, I am delighted to announce that Dennis will be running to fill a vacant council seat. He’s said that the only downside to marrying me 5 years ago was he would have to delay his desire to serve on the city council until I stepped down. Now is that time. Prior to meeting me, Dennis had planned on running in the 2014 election and happily set those goals aside to support me. Now that I have decided to step down, Dennis is happy to resume his aspiration to serve as a member of the Placerville City Council.
Dennis has dedicated his life to serving our community, so this is a natural progression to his extensive community service. Currently, Dennis is the President of the Placerville Downtown Association and Chairman of El Dorado County Fire District. He has also spent decades on various committees for the city of Placerville as well as serving on the Planning Commission. I can’t wait for Dennis to bring his vast experience to help Placerville thrive. He will be an incredible asset to the city, and it is my joy and delight to support him.
Thank you, Placerville, for allowing me the great privilege of serving you. I look forward to finishing the rest of the year as your Mayor. Please know that Placerville and El Dorado County are deeply rooted in my love, and always will be.
