
A jury returned a not guilty verdict Thursday in a trial of a man accused of brandishing a firearm “in an angry or threatening manner” at three teenage girls who made obscene gestures as they drove by his Placerville home.
Prosecutors with the El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office claimed Bradley Popejoy’s action was out of anger and not self-defense. The defense argued the three 17-year-olds were harassing the Popejoys in front of their home Aug. 29, 2020.

That’s a very lucky verdict they got from the jury.
Penal code 417 is pretty clear. It also states that you can I use a gun in a flight or a quarrel. The fact that fingers were exchanged tends to describe a fight or quarrel not a case of self-defense. I question the immediate threat that was presented by the three females.
I get that they were out you’re no good and could have called in and targeted the property for further action but that is rather speculative.
I would never recommend to my clients to use a gun in that manner.
Go inside and let them come to you if that is their intent.
