Most can remember the exact notes they first squeaked out of a horn or the first chords their fingers were able to master on the guitar as a child. Pioneer Union School District has a strong music program that is offered at all of its three schools of Walt Tyler Elementary, Pioneer Elementary, and Mountain Creek Middle School. Preschool thru 8th grade students are given music opportunities in voice, instrumental, guitar, and performance programs. In fact, students are hard at work with preparing for the Spring Musical, Twelve Dancing Princesses.
Mr. Beau Phillips, PUSD Music Teacher, shares “Twelve Dancing Princesses – a Pop Rock Musical adaptation of the Grimm Brothers Fairy Tale. The production features fifty-five 2nd through 8th graders playing the roles of the Princesses, Princes, Lady Sniffles, Lady Steno, the enchantress Hope Diamond and other delightful characters and we even have a chorus of singing cows, which will be sung and danced by an ensemble of kindergartners.”
As with preparations for this musical and beyond, music education has been shown to improve language capabilities, memory, hand-eye coordination, study habits, teamwork, and problem-solving in children. PUSD prides itself on the ability to not only offer music opportunities to all grades, but to allow students to explore multiple variations of music education.
Spring is here, and PUSD is excited to continue to fill the beautiful foothills of South County with laughter and music for all. PUSD will hold its Spring Musical of Twelve Dancing Princesses at Pioneer Elementary Multi-Purpose Room on May 24th and 25th at 6:30 pm. Students, families, and the community are all invited.
