AND HERE’S THE HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE COUNCIL MEETING THIS WEEK:
1. Officer DUANE TADLOCK was given the CIT Award (Crisis Intervention Team Award) by the National Alliance on Mental Illness for his sensitivity and care in dealing with folks in our community. Officer Tadlock, you are a blessing in our community!
2. Join our Mayor on Memorial Day at the Veteran’s Monument on Monday, May 29 at 11 a.m.
3. EL DORADO DISPOSAL RATES FOR 2017 IN PLACERVILLE: Rates for Seniors will stay the same (for the 6th consecutive year)! The 35G cart weekly price will be increased by 51 cents based on the Diesel Fuel and Consumer Price Index.
4. SOL FARMER’S MARKET is now open in the front of the Tetrault Lot by the Post Office. Join them every Sunday for Organic and Artisan products.
5. CHRISTMAS PARADE 2017. We are looking for an Event Sponsor to work with the City in putting on the parade this year! (We need to find one by July 1st.) If you’re interested, contact Steve Youel at 642-5232. Many thanks to the McIntire Family and the Mountain Democrat for carrying the banner all these years! This is such a special event for our community and we want to make sure it continues!
Here is an interesting thought. With new sponsorship, this is perhaps the opportunity to tweak the Christmas Parade. What about combining it with the Festival of Lights? Maybe start the parade around 3 p.m. and once Santa rolls through town, we roll right into the Tree Lighting Ceremony? Main Street would only be closed for 1 event rather than 2 in the middle of the holiday shopping season! We could also relieve the Thanksgiving Weekend. Hmmmm.
6. Council approved an intensive work plan to address the challenges at the Wastewater Treatment Plant from the effects of the crazy storms earlier this year.
7. Heard an update on the CHICKEN ORDINANCE. Good news…there was only 1 chicken complaint this last quarter. A coop was too close to the neighbor, but the coop was empty. Guess the chickens had flown the coop, which is being moved. Rest easy tonight… all is well!
That’s it for this week. Enjoy the Memorial Weekend in honor of all those who have protected our immense freedom. Wendy Thomas.
