Kids with disabilities are just a little closer to romping at a local playground. At the December El Dorado Hills Community Services District Board of Directors’ meeting, Walk with Austin presented the CSD with a $34,000 check toward the construction of an all-abilities playground at the future Bass Lake Regional Park. The funds were raised from the recent Walk with Austin TRYathlon event in which kids with disabilities competed in an adaptive swim/bike/run or roll event.
“The event was so successful,” Walk with Austin founder Holly Reininger said. “We only had 20 participants but you can see the community’s love for this concept through what we raised that day.”
Reininger expressed gratitude for the CSD’s role in organizing the competition at which more than 70 volunteers were on hand at the community park and pool. “How many people you had there to help, it was incredible,” she said. “Everything went so smoothly and all the parents were thrilled.”
