PLACERVILLE, Calif. —

A murder suspect made his first court appearance Wednesday in connection with a 1985 El Dorado Hills deadly stabbing.

Michael Green, 51, is charged in the murder of Jane Hylton. The 54-year-old print journalist for the then-Foothill Times was stabbed 29 times inside her El Dorado Hills home nearly 35 years ago.

Because Green was 17 years old at the time of the murder, he was arraigned as a juvenile. The arraignment was initially scheduled for the juvenile courthouse but was moved to the historic courthouse, which acted like a juvenile setting.

Bill Portanova is not affiliated with the case, but as an attorney and former prosecutor explained the juvenile court appearance is a formality.

“The idea that the juvenile court will entertain any legitimate thought of keeping him in juvenile court is preposterous,” Portanova said. “This motion is required by law, the DA makes the motion, the judge will review it and make his decision. And I know what the decision will be -- bet the house on it, he’s going to adult court.”
