Foresthill Bridge suicide hotline call boxes disconnected

Standing 730 feet above the North Fork of the American River, Foresthill Bridge is the highest in California. Unfortunately, since it’s been built, it’s estimated 88 people have jumped to their death.

In the decades since, there have been efforts in prevention-- most recently, notes of support and encouragement lining the roughly half-mile walkway on top of the bridge from the group Notes of Hope Auburn.

Brittney Hendricks founded the grassroots group in July of 2018 and said in the time since 37 lives have been saved. Thirteen people contacted her directly to thank her for the notes, and the remaining were messages passed along by law enforcement, she said.
