A motorcyclist has died Sunday after crashing into a tree along an El Dorado County highway, officials said.
The 39-year-old man was traveling northbound on Highway 49 near Riverwood Drive when he crashed into a tree, dying at the scene, the California Highway Patrol Placerville Division said. Officers believe the motorcyclist was going too fast when he tried making a turn.
A nearby homeowner called CHP around 6:20 p.m. after finding the motorcyclist's body, CHP said.
Lanes in both directions were closed while officers investigated, but the road has since reopened.
No other details were released.
