A restaurant opened for dine-in service Friday in El Dorado County, California, despite Gov. Gavin Newsom\u2019s shelter-in-place orders meant to help stop the spread of the coronavirus.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will not survive another month. This place is my livelihood and it\u2019s being taken away from me,\u201d Caf\u00e9 El Dorado owner\u00a0Cherie Baldridge\u00a0told<\/a>\u00a0the\u00a0Mountain Democrat<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Two months behind in rent and facing insolvency, Baldridge and her two employees realized that opening up was their last resort.<\/p>\n

\u201cTake-out isn\u2019t going to do it. My regular customers don\u2019t like take-out. They like to sit down, relax and eat the food here. So that\u2019s what I\u2019m going to let them do,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n

Friday,\u00a0protests<\/a>\u00a0against the stay home orders took place in at least 11 cities, including Sacramento, San Francisco, and San Diego, according to AFP.<\/p>\n

In Los Angeles, hundreds\u00a0gathered<\/a>\u00a0outside the Los Angeles City Hall to demand Gov. Gavin Newsom reopen the state\u2019s economy, Breitbart News reported.<\/p>\n

One man addressed the crowd with a bullhorn and urged participants to look around at the turnout.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is America! Look at the turnout! Look at all this red, white, and blue. So many people just proud, proud \u2014 standing up for the First Amendment.\u00a0Our forefathers wrote the First Amendment so that this exact thing would not happen,\u201d he said as people cheered.<\/p>\n

Friday, Caf\u00e9 El Dorado customer Linda Forni, whose husband passed away in November, said it was good for her mental health to visit the diner that only\u00a0seated<\/a>\u00a0about 25 at a time.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of regulars are older men who are retired and can\u2019t or don\u2019t cook at home and don\u2019t go out anyway to socialize. They come here and go home mainly, and there is a low rate in the county, so I don\u2019t have concerns here,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n

Thursday, Baldridge got an\u00a0email from the El Dorado County Environmental Management Department asking her not to allow sit-down service despite reports that the county\u2019s coronavirus cases were on the decline.<\/p>\n

However, the caf\u00e9 owner refused to comply.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have to eat. I have to pay my bills. They\u2019re my rights. This is my business and I have the rights to keep it open,\u201d Baldridge stated.<\/p>\n

Friday, the\u00a0El Dorado County Sheriff\u2019s Office (EDSO) said it did not plan on forcing businesses to close or penalize them for not following the order.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will continue to educate them to make smart and responsible decisions for our community. Our goal is to not have to enforce the stay-at-home order through citations,\u201d the EDSO concluded.<\/p>\n
