\u201cWe understand and \u00a0share \u00a0the \u00a0public\u2019s \u00a0anxiety \u00a0and \u00a0concern \u00a0about \u00a0the \u00a0impacts \u00a0of \u00a0the \u00a02020 \u00a0COVID\u201019 pandemic. County Tax Collectors cannot change the April 10 delinquent date for the Second Installment of Property Taxes because the date is established by State law,\u201d said K. E. Coleman, Treasurer\u2010Tax Collector. \u201cHowever, \u00a0I \u00a0am \u00a0committed \u00a0to \u00a0helping \u00a0in \u00a0every \u00a0way \u00a0allowable \u00a0under \u00a0the \u00a0law. \u00a0Under \u00a0very \u00a0specific circumstances, we may \u00a0waive \u00a0penalties \u00a0resulting \u00a0from \u00a0tax \u00a0delinquency \u00a0for \u00a0those \u00a0who \u00a0can \u00a0demonstrate that they have been negatively impacted by the coronavirus.\u201d<\/p>\n

Penalty \u00a0Cancellation \u00a0Request \u00a0Forms \u00a0can \u00a0be \u00a0requested \u00a0after \u00a0April \u00a010, \u00a02020. \u00a0The \u00a0forms \u00a0must \u00a0be accompanied by documentation that proves the reason for the request (i.e. proof of hospitalization or loss of \u00a0job). \u00a0 Please \u00a0note: \u00a0As \u00a0COVID\u201019 \u00a0continues \u00a0to \u00a0evolve, \u00a0circumstances \u00a0will \u00a0change. \u00a0That \u00a0being \u00a0said, \u00a0the documentation requirements are still a work in progress.<\/p>\n

Property owners who can pay \u00a0their \u00a0taxes on \u00a0time are being asked \u00a0to make \u00a0their payments. Vital county services, \u00a0such as emergency \u00a0response, law enforcement, \u00a0public \u00a0health, \u00a0schools and \u00a0other \u00a0local \u00a0financial obligations \u00a0are \u00a0dependent \u00a0on \u00a0these \u00a0scheduled \u00a0revenues. Payments \u00a0can \u00a0be \u00a0made \u00a0online \u00a0via \u00a0the \u00a0Tax Collector website (https:\/\/www.edcgov.us\/taxcollector<\/a>), by mail, using the exterior drop boxes at 360 Fair Lane , Placerville, CA (available 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, check and money order payments only). Also, our counter remains open during regular business hours.<\/p>\n

We know the State and Federal income tax deadlines have been moved and we hope that brings relief to those directly impacted, as well a broader economic relief to the State and Nation. The State and Federal Government have been able to provide income tax relief because most income tax revenues have already been \u00a0collected \u00a0on \u00a0a \u00a0per\u2010paycheck \u00a0basis \u00a0or \u00a0through \u00a0quarterly \u00a0tax \u00a0filings. \u00a0In \u00a0addition, \u00a0State \u00a0and \u00a0Federal governments have \u00a0far greater resources \u00a0than local government, including \u00a0the ability \u00a0to print money and the \u00a0ability \u00a0to \u00a0provide \u00a0other \u00a0forms \u00a0of \u00a0economic \u00a0stability \u00a0and \u00a0relief \u00a0through monetary \u00a0policies \u00a0and \u00a0other tools.<\/p>\n

In our communities, property taxes go to many local government agencies to pay for many local services \u00a0such \u00a0as \u00a0law \u00a0enforcement, \u00a0emergency \u00a0response, \u00a0schools \u00a0and \u00a0public \u00a0health. \u00a0We \u00a0also \u00a0have \u00a0voter \u00a0and \u00a0property\u2010owner \u00a0approved \u00a0bonds \u00a0issued \u00a0to \u00a0build \u00a0schools \u00a0and \u00a0to \u00a0provide \u00a0public \u00a0infrastructure \u00a0that \u00a0are \u00a0repaid \u00a0from \u00a0charges \u00a0on \u00a0tax \u00a0bills. \u00a0If \u00a0charges \u00a0for \u00a0bond \u00a0debt \u00a0service \u00a0are \u00a0not \u00a0collected \u00a0timely \u00a0and \u00a0in \u00a0the \u00a0amount \u00a0necessary \u00a0to pay bond debt \u00a0service, municipal bonds may begin \u00a0to default.
