Special thank you to El Dorado County District 2 Supervisor Shiva Frentzen for paying a visit to The Medicine Horse Project. Supervisor Frentzen braved the heat and smoke on August 11th to drive up to the El Dorado National Forest and meet the Healing Herd, learn about our mission and how MHP makes a difference in our community.<\/p>\n

She voiced her concern about mental health within our community and reinforced what we already know, that our community needs us as a resource for healing.<\/p>\n

We also shared with her the plight of the American Mustang and how they need our help, our voice and our leaders to help them.<\/p>\n

Supervisor Frentzen commented on the cleanliness of our facilities but most important to us she said “it is clear how loved these horses are and how they love the people here in return<\/strong>“.<\/p>\n

We are so grateful to have shared our mission with our community leader and look forward to continuing to raise awareness on how Horses are Good Medicine.<\/p>\n

The Directors of The Medicine Horse Project acknowledge that animals are sentient beings with the power to heal the hearts of those who make a personal connection with them. \u00a0We believe that animals should be admired, respected, and when needed, rescued.<\/p>\n

The Medicine Horse Project\u2019s mission is the rescuing, rehabilitating, and adopting of horses who have suffered neglect and abuse, or are in jeopardy of being sent to slaughter.<\/p>\n

The rehabilitation of the rescued horse will involve and engage volunteers and program guests who come to The Project\u2019s healing retreats. \u00a0Our guests will give care to the animals in The Medicine Horse Project, and in doing so, they will prepare them for adoption into new loving homes. \u00a0The return benefit to the caregivers is a healing of the mind, body and spirit that only animals can give humans.<\/p>\n

Sanctuary will be provided for certain rescued horses who are not well suited for adoption due to age, health issues, or temperament. \u00a0In these cases, lifelong care will be given and the horses will not be made available for adoption.<\/p>\n

We receive calls almost weekly regarding horses in need. Horses needing feed, safety and general care. As people are recovering from the horrific and devastating fires throughout Northern California, we anticipate only more horses needing help from the community.<\/p>\n

We have a possible new intake coming. We have said yes and are waiting for the call that the owner is willing to surrender. Initial information is that he is 15 years old. Was seriously under weight and shows signs of mental and physical abuse. We will keep you posted. Your support, helps open our gates to horses in need.<\/p>\n
