President Trump has decided to take a fresh approach at combatting human trafficking and designated January of 2018 as the \u201cNational Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month.\u201d<\/p>\n
Trump released a\u00a0proclamation<\/a>\u00a0on December 29, which announced that January will be a time for our country to issued Dec. 29, \u201crecommit ourselves to eradicating the evil of enslavement.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cHuman trafficking is a modern form of the oldest and most barbaric type of exploitation,\u201d it said, \u00a0\u201cIt has no place in our world.\u00a0 This month we do not simply reflect on this appalling reality.\u00a0 We also pledge to do all in our power to end the horrific practice of human trafficking that plagues innocent victims around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n The Hill reports:\u00a0<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n Former President Obama made a similar proclamation during his presidency,\u00a0designating <\/a>January 2017 as National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month. Obama also signed<\/a>\u00a0anti-human trafficking legislation in 2015 to provide services and protections for trafficking victims.<\/p>\n \n Trump announced that in January, he will sign into law two anti-trafficking bills, the \u201cCombating Human Trafficking in Commercial Vehicles Act\u201d and the \u201cNo Human Trafficking on Our Roads Act.\u201dHe also touted several ways his administration has moved to combat human trafficking, such as\u00a0signing an executive order<\/a>\u00a0last February to dismantle international crime organizations and setting up an interagency task force on working with other nations to combat trafficking.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n \n Trump has repeatedly lamented rising crime rates in the U.S., despite evidence that crime isat a low<\/a>, particularly in big cities.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n <\/p>\n \u201cThe Department of State has contributed $25\u00a0million to the Global Fund to End Modern Slavery, because of the critical need for cross-nation collaborative action to counter human trafficking,\u201d the proclamation continued, \u00a0\u201cThe Department of Labor has released an innovative, business-focused mobile app that supports private-sector efforts to eradicate forced labor from global supply chains.\u201d<\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" A new year signified fresh starts and new opportunities!
