STATEMENT OF AGRICULTURE, BUSINESS AND COMMUNITIES OF EL DORADO (ABC-ED)<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

In 2016, ABC-ED stood up in public and\u00a0warned that Measure E was illegal<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0and would strangle El Dorado County\u2019s economy. \u00a0We said that traffic-control\u00a0Measure Y<\/strong><\/em>, approved by 72% of the voters in 2008, was working and\u00a0should continue as-is<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

The small group who wrote and promoted Measure E didn\u2019t like that at all. \u00a0They attacked ABC-ED members personally, and called us \u201ctools of developers\u201d. \u00a0They insisted that their wholesale re-write of Measure Y was the only answer to \u201csave our county,\u201d and they persuaded just enough people that Measure E barely passed last November.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re not developers or their tools \u2013 we are farmers, businesspeople, and residents who love El Dorado County.<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0We want it to thrive, and we reject name-calling and political extremism.<\/p>\n

Guess what? \u00a0We were right about Measure E<\/strong><\/em>. \u00a0Judge Stracener of the El Dorado Superior Court recently\u00a0invalidated<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0its key policies as\u00a0unconstitutional and unlawful<\/strong><\/em>. \u00a0He said that the Measure E policies would\u00a0impede County government, create inconsistencies in the County General Plan, coerce County property owners, and take private property rights without due process<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

Measure E\u2019s boosters are busy spinning their resounding legal defeat as a victory in social media, and are most certainly hatching new plans to further their agenda. \u00a0Don\u2019t be fooled. \u00a0Measure Y has produced more than $240 million in developer fees to maintain and improve the level of service on both County roads and Highway 50.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s put aside illegal and poorly written initiatives<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0and stay the course with Measure Y \u2013 it\u2019s thought out, well constructed, reasonable and has worked for El Dorado County since 1998.<\/p>\n
