{"id":6074,"date":"2017-12-25T17:13:24","date_gmt":"2017-12-26T01:13:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newsmolo.com\/EDC\/2019\/?p=6074"},"modified":"2025-12-05T17:14:39","modified_gmt":"2025-12-06T01:14:39","slug":"resilience-strength-in-south-lake-tahoe-ten-years-after-angora-fire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.newsmolo.com\/EDC\/2019\/2017\/12\/25\/resilience-strength-in-south-lake-tahoe-ten-years-after-angora-fire\/","title":{"rendered":"Resilience, Strength In South Lake Tahoe Ten Years After Angora Fire"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\">\n<p>This Saturday marks the ten-year anniversary of a devastating fire that swept through South Lake Tahoe, destroying more than 250 homes.<\/p>\n<p>In June 2007, while the fire was still burning, Capital Public Radio spoke with Joe Puleri at a shelter for evacuees.<\/p>\n<p>He told us he only had five minutes to get out of his home, along with his two sons.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Got the kids out, the kids are safe, the house is gone and everything we own is gone,&#8221; Puleri said then.<\/p>\n<p>Ten years later, Puleri recalled 2007 as a bad year, but despite losing what he called his &#8220;dream home,&#8221; Puleri says the Angora Fire could have been much worse if the community and emergency responders hadn&#8217;t acted so quickly.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We didn&#8217;t lose any lives&#8217; that&#8217;s the good thing about the whole thing,&#8221; he says. &#8220;We could have lost a lot of people.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"rs-article-img c68203366a918i1867564736 rs-active\"><span id=\"c68203366a918i1867564736\"><\/span><img id=\"ui-5\" class=\"rs-article-img-src\" title=\"Angora 2007 Burned Out Car\" src=\"https:\/\/www.capradio.org\/media\/8958563\/Angora%202007%20Burned%20Out%20Car_800x600.jpg\" alt=\"Angora 2007 Burned Out Car\" data-src=\"\/\/www.capradio.org\/media\/8958563\/Angora%202007%20Burned%20Out%20Car_800x600.jpg\" data-srcset=\"\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In 2007, the Angora Fire in South Lake Tahoe destroyed more than 250 homes.
