{"id":5594,"date":"2017-03-31T20:18:17","date_gmt":"2017-04-01T03:18:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newsmolo.com\/EDC\/2019\/?p=5594"},"modified":"2025-11-28T20:20:51","modified_gmt":"2025-11-29T04:20:51","slug":"two-kids-come-face-to-face-with-black-bear-in-tahoe-as-experts-cringe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.newsmolo.com\/EDC\/2019\/2017\/03\/31\/two-kids-come-face-to-face-with-black-bear-in-tahoe-as-experts-cringe\/","title":{"rendered":"Two kids come face-to-face with black bear in Tahoe as experts cringe"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\">\n<p>A black bear wandered into the yard and onto the back deck of Joe Ficeto\u2019s house in South Lake Tahoe last week, despite his efforts to scare the bear away by banging on pots and pans.<\/p>\n<p>So Ficeto\u00a0began videotaping as the black bear walked up to the window where his young son and daughter got a close-up view:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"rs-article-iframe-src\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fjoseph.e.ficeto%2Fvideos%2F10210918989643595%2F&amp;width=620\" width=\"620\" height=\"630\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" data-srcset=\"\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a pretty crazy situation,\u201d Ficeto\u00a0<a>told the Tahoe Daily Tribune<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And it got crazier when the bear reached up and clawed at the window.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDefinitely a little nervous,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>At that point, Dash the dog ran up to the door and began barking, momentarily startling the bear but not enough to scare it off. The bear hung around for another 45 minutes before leaving.<\/p>\n<p>Nevada Department of Wildlife public affairs officer Chris Healy told the Tribune the black bear was probably a young male 2 to 4 years old.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re the ones that emerge first,\u201d he said. \u201cIn an open winter without much snow, those bears will emerge around the third week of February and start looking for things\u00a0to eat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, a spokeswoman for the Bear League, an organization that works to keep bears safe,\u00a0<a>told CBS News Sacramento<\/a>\u00a0that more bears than ever before didn\u2019t hibernate at all this winter, despite record snowfall in the Tahoe Basin.
