Regular showing began September 5th with Red Skelton in \u201cMerton of the Movies\u201d and a second attraction, John Hodiak in \u201cThe Arnelo Affair\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Quonset hut style building that was the Grand Theater can still be seen in Pollock Pines. 6411 Pony Express Trail, Pollock Pines, CA 95726<\/p>\n<p>The 1948 location given was the north side of highway 50 just east of the 50 Grand Market. Equipped with a cry room, the 490-seat theatre had loges costing .70 cents, adults .60 cents, students .50 cents and children .20 cents.<\/p>\n<p>In January 1949 Motion Picture Herald noted owner Tom Graff circulated 4,250 monthly programs and published the shopping News for the mutual benefit of local merchants. From 1950-51 Mr. Graff commented quite frequently in the \u201cWhat the picture did for me\u201d section of Motion Picture Herald.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes closed due to heavy snow, an advertisement in the Mountain Democrat announced it was opening for the season on June 20, 1954.
