Saying it\u2019s time for a change, Republican state Sen. Brian Dahle announced his candidacy for California governor during a noontime rally on the Redding Civic Auditorium lawn.<\/p>\n
Dahle, a rural legislator from far Northern California, likened his challenge against Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom as David versus Goliath.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m a farmer from Bieber. You might say I\u2019m the underdog,\u201d Dahle told the crowd of several hundred people. \u201cWell, I\u2019ve been the underdog in every race I\u2019ve ever won.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dahle railed against California\u2019s \u201cone-party rule\u201d where Democrats have controlled the Legislature for years and blamed current policies for driving people out of California.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe system we have today is a failure and it\u2019s running people out of the state. People are fleeing the corruption and dysfunction,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The state senator ticked off a list of problems that he says has left California broken.<\/p>\n
He said there\u2019s \u201can absolute homeless crisis in every city,\u201d from Yreka to San Diego.<\/p>\n
He said California\u2019s high cost of living puts a burden on working people, with rent prices among the highest in the country. He also cited the high cost of utility bills, gasoline and taxes.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt all adds up to huge bills that give us the highest poverty rate in the nation,\u201d Dahle said.
\nDahle’s hope of financing a successful campaign is to have supporters sign up on his campaign site,\u00a0briandahle.com<\/a>, and donate $1 a day. Then he asks that donors have 10 of their friends donate $1 a day.<\/p>\n
