SACRAMENTO \u2013 On Thursday, February 10 lawmakers will hold a press conference urging the passage of Assembly Concurrent Resolution 46 (Kiley\/Gallagher) and Senate Concurrent Resolution 5 (Melendez) to end the State of Emergency.<\/p>\n
WHAT:<\/strong><\/p>\n Press conference in support of ACR 46 (Kiley\/Gallagher) and SCR 5 (Melendez) to end the State of Emergency<\/p>\n WHERE:<\/strong><\/p>\n California State Capitol, West Steps<\/p>\n WHEN:<\/strong><\/p>\n Thursday, February 10 at 8:00 a.m.<\/p>\n WHO:<\/strong><\/p>\n Assemblyman Kevin Kiley<\/p>\n Assemblyman James Gallagher<\/p>\n Senator Melissa Melendez<\/p>\n Members of the Senate and Assembly<\/p>\n WHY:<\/strong><\/p>\n After nearly two years, California remains under Governor Gavin Newsom\u2019s State of Emergency despite the state\u2019s plans to host the Super Bowl on February 13, 2022. Under the\u00a0California Emergency Services Act<\/a>, the Governor is required to terminate the State of Emergency \u201cat the earliest possible date that conditions warrant.\u201d In the event that this requirement is not upheld, the Legislature has the power to terminate the emergency by concurrent resolution.\u00a0ACR 46<\/a>\u00a0does this by declaring \u201cthat the state of emergency proclaimed by Governor Gavin Newsom on March 4, 2020, is at an end and that the emergency powers granted to the Governor as a result of that proclamation are terminated.\u201d<\/p>\n Many Republican and Democratic governors across the country have rightfully ended their emergency declarations and statewide mandates. It is time for the California Legislature to follow the lead of these states by doing what Governor Newsom has been unwilling to do.
