In a continued effort to positively enhance our community and empower our future leaders, the County Board of Supervisors (Board) partners with the El Dorado County Office of Education (EDCOE) to facilitate and support the <\/span>El Dorado County Youth Commission<\/span><\/i>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
Each school year, students are appointed to the Youth Commission by the County Board of Supervisors to help develop and express the opinions, ideas, and vision of El Dorado County youth by working with local government and community decision-makers.\u00a0Through the program, students gain leadership skills and work toward common goals as they partner with other youth organizations, assist with local community service activities, and discover ways to better communicate with youth about various opportunities available in El Dorado County.<\/span><\/p>\n
\u201cWe are extremely proud of the Youth Commission and their dedication to serving community youth.\u201d noted Dr. Ed Manansala, County Superintendent of Schools. \u201cIn working together with our County Board of Supervisors to develop youth leadership opportunities such as these, we empower the next generation of El Dorado County residents to further cultivate a healthy and vibrant community.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
On Tuesday, November 9, the Youth Commission participated in their annual Shadow Day, where the commissioners joined the Board during one of their regularly scheduled meeting and provided input and comments on agenda items such as:\u00a0 public comments, county code enforcement specifications, and a proposed homeless services program.<\/span><\/p>\n
\u201cThese future leaders are a talented, dedicated and passionate group of youth, and it is our honor to welcome them here and work alongside them,\u201d stated Supervisor Wendy Thomas, who serves as the Board\u2019s Liaison for the Youth Commission. \u201cShadow Day provides an unforgettable learning experience for the commissioners. I am continually impressed by their insights on community issues. They are our future leaders, and their innovative and insightful input now helps to shape the future of El Dorado County.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
\u201cThe Youth Commission was honored to attend the Board of Supervisors meeting.\u201d noted Youth Commission Vice-Chair Lauryn Sumimoto. \u201cThis experience increased our awareness of issues in the county and provided the opportunity to experience local government in action. Not only did we gain insight on local issues such as code enforcement and homelessness. We also received a new appreciation for our county representation. The Commission is grateful for the opportunities to join community discussions and work with county leadership.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
