Hello to our Placerville Citizens!\u00a0What a great time to live in Placerville.\u00a0Hopefully spring is bringing more than just good weather along with much needed rain, however the weather the last few weeks has been great!\u00a0We continue to see improvement in our Covid-19 cases and moving to the Red Tier on the State\u2019s guidelines is a step in the right direction.\u00a0We continue to improve and hopefully soon can be back to some sense of normalcy.<\/p>\n

One exciting project to bring to your attention is the proposal by our Placerville Economic Advisory Committee (PEAC) for exploring a program to bring better and more affordable internet service to our City.\u00a0This means everyone who is interested can have faster, more reliable and more affordable internet service than what is currently available.\u00a0\u00a0We need to hear from you to see if this is something you would like.\u00a0\u00a0Please go to \u201c\u00a0connectplacerville.com<\/a>\u00a0\u201d to get further information and to complete the survey.<\/p>\n

The program, as currently planned, would bring Fiber service to everyone in the City who wants it.\u00a0One statistic that stood out to me in this process was the difference in speed between wireless and Fiber.\u00a0Please see the following outlining those differences:<\/p>\n

DSL\u00a0max speed:\u00a0100 Mbps<\/p>\n

Coax\u00a0(Cable) max speed:\u00a0950 Mbps<\/p>\n

5G Wireless max speed:\u00a02,000 Mbps<\/p>\n

Fiber max speed (today):\u00a025,000,000 Mbps<\/p>\n

As you can see, Fiber offers many new opportunities, not just due to speed but also due to capacity.\u00a0How many of you had a virtual doctor\u2019s appointment or another meeting over the past year?\u00a0How many of your children had virtual school over the past year?\u00a0Did you ever have concerns about how reliable your internet service would be for these events?\u00a0Although we are looking forward to getting back to normal, some of these issues may never come completely back, and virtual services will likely become part the normal going forward.<\/p>\n

City Council appointed Nicole Gotberg and reappointed Michael Frenn to the Planning commission. Welcome Nicole and thank you for your continued service, Michael! City Council also reappointed Sue Rodman and Mickey Kaiserman to the Measure H\/L Sales Tax Committee. We’re excited to report that the contractor has completed the work for the temporary shoring project for Historic City Hall. The City is looking ahead to protecting and properly restoring these treasured buildings.<\/p>\n

As the community is aware, the City has been considering revising our City logo and potentially removing the noose from the logo. After receiving almost 2 hours of public comments and discussion at the most recent meeting, the City Council directed staff and the Council sub-committee to prepare a process to conduct a public forum, and other public outreach to gain public input on the issue. The process will be discussed at the next Council meeting on March 23, 2021.<\/p>\n

Other items included staff reported on the Mid-Year Budget Report, authorized Engineering Dept. to solicit proposals for the Broadway Maintenance project, updated on Traffic Impact Mitigation fees, website and City promotional video, along with police and fire statistics.<\/p>\n
